Transforming Blackpool’s housing
Blackpool’s urgent housing issues were recognised in March 2022 by government and a working partnership was formed. In March 2024, £90 million from the government and Homes England was awarded to Blackpool. With this money Blackpool Council will create new homes and vibrant neighborhoods in central Blackpool.
Residents need better housing and investment in community facilities, especially in inner Blackpool. This funding will help improve housing, neighborhoods, and life chances.
Consultation and engagement with residents is really important to us, this regeneration can not happen without it.
We will consult with residents regularly, we want you to love where you live and have the housing and facilities you need. One of the first things we need to do is ask some questions about how you live, what you like and what you would like to see improved.
The first phase of this housing regeneration work will likely focus on the area south of the town centre, between Chapel Street and Rigby Road to Park Road, and the Promenade and Central Drive corridor. This is one of Blackpool’s most deprived areas. The exact area isn’t confirmed yet.
Housing regeneration is a long-term plan it will take at least 15 years. However, rest assured, If your property is in the first phase of development, you will be contacted directly.
Our vision for Blackpool
We aim to create strong, stable, and thriving neighbourhoods. We want to provide access to essential services like healthcare, quality housing, education, and leisure activities.
Old housing will be replaced with modern, comfortable homes designed for Blackpool residents and businesses.
Benefits of the housing regeneration
This initiative promises many benefits of planned housing investment:
- Social: Modern housing, better health outcomes, reduced homelessness, and lower crime rates
- Economic: Job creation and economic growth
- Environmental: Energy-efficient housing and new public spaces
Community involvement
We are at the beginning of a 15 to 20 year project and need the input of Blackpool residents. Your feedback is crucial throughout this process and we will be asking you for your thoughts, views and needs on a number of occasions.
In autumn 2024 we will begin to start to have conversations with residents in the central regeneration area in Blackpool and ask them their views on where they live.
There will be a number of opportunities for the community to be involved and tell us what they think. Sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date and keep an eye on our social channels for updates.
