The government sets out a number of mandatory licensing conditions which apply to premises licences.
These conditions cover various issues such as irresponsible drinks promotions, proof of age schemes and the provision of small measures.
Selling of cheap alcohol
One of the mandatory conditions which applies to all premises licensed to sell alcohol for consumption on or off the premises sets out to ban the selling of cheap alcohol below “cost” – the government has established “cost” as being the amount of duty + VAT.
